Sandra Franco Gutiérrez
Sandra Franco Gutiérrez has a bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. She has been involved in urban pest control since 2002, when she worked in a project in which trade unions, business associations, the health and work departments of the regional government and the foundation for the prevention of occupational risks, collaborated to create a Manual on Integrated Control of Urban Pests, being one of the first documents on the matter in our country. She is currently working in the Agència de Salut Pública de Barcelona (ASPB) and is responsible of the surveillance and control programme for rodents, cockroaches and other minor urban pests (wasps, ants, fleas and ticks, among others) in public areas in Barcelona. In this context she has led several research lines about these pests in the city, highlighting relative abundance studies of Rattus norvegicus or efficacy trials of insecticides against Periplaneta Americana both in the sewage system of Barcelona, which results have been recently exposed in several international scientific meetings.
